Last week we were rocked to the core by the devastating fire at Clandon Park. On Wednesday the call came in and many of the team from Polesden Lacey as well as teams from across the region all made their way to Clandon to help.
During the evening, as the fire still burned, National Trust colleagues worked with the fire brigade to salvage as many treasures as possible. Thankfully the staff at Clandon had a well rehearsed salvage plan and were able to call upon local staff with specialist salvage training and skills. At this moment in time the staff are still working to find out how much was saved and how much was lost, this will be a painstaking process and will take time.
For an overview of some of the items saved, I recommend this blog post written by one of the National Trust Registrars:
Here at Polesden Lacey we are providing support to the team at Clandon in any way we can, and will continue to do so over the coming weeks and months. We are all thinking of the team of staff, volunteers and local community at this difficult time.
We have been overwhelmed with the response from National Trust staff, volunteers and the public with offers for help. If you would like to Donate to the Clandon Park appeal, and help Clandon Park face its uncertain future, you can do so here:
