The past four weeks have been a blur of presents, evergreens, a lot of cleaning and a whole lot of Christmas cheer. We have welcomed a remarkable 12,000 visitors over the past four weekends. They have followed the trail of advents around the house and gardens finding all 24 festive tableaux’s and scenes, sipped mulled wine, taken a reindeer sleigh ride around the grounds, made wreaths in the rose garden, learnt how to fold napkins, played parlour games and helped to decorate the tree in the billiard room. It has been wonderful seeing the house so alive with families enjoying the festivities, but now it’s time for the house (and us…) to have a bit of a rest. Over the next few weeks and months the house will start to return to normal and we will continue with our schedule of winter cleaning tasks, prepare new displays, partake in some training courses and prepare for a brand new season in March.
However you can still visit the house every weekend for tours over the winter period.
Glorious Glimpses tours will resume on the 27 and 28 December and will run every weekend until the 22 February. These tours, taken by our expert guides will take you around some of the ground floor rooms of the house and vary in content; there is even a special family tour that runs 3 times a day. Tours start at 11am and the last tour starts at 3pm, tours can be booked on arrival only.
Even though the festivities are over, come and join us at Polesden for a tour, listen to the wonderful stories and see the objects and interiors of Mrs Greville’s marvelous party house.
